    Air dry clay advice

greetings, my names Keith. I would really appreciate some advice on what clay to use. I need a air dry clay. The one i use now, seems to want to crack like crazy when it dries. If you have any advice on stopping that from happening, i would greatly appreciate it also. At the moment I am using Amico air dry clay. I also start of with foam as my base and build it off that. Please let me know what works for you, made some amazing sculptures but the cracking ruins them.

    Greetings Keith,

We do not utilize air drying clays, as we prefer the properties of traditional clays that require firing. Vitrification is a good thing.

However all clays other than polymer clays have some shrinkage when drying; it seems that your clay is shrinking when drying and your’ armature is not.

I have no kiln to fire the clay. So I’m stuck with air dry. I’ve heard of putting a plastic bag over the sculpter to help slow down the drying process which I heard makes it crack less.
